This is an informative essay and opinion piece from an expert, the writer who is an attorney at NYU School of Law. She is exposing a disparity -- a serious problem in our legal system. You ask if this is journalism? It is an essay written in first person from a credible source. The author exposes her research and experience, which can not be defined as journalism or reporting because of the nature of the genre: a personal essay. It’s not journalism because we don’t see the reporting on both sides. It is an excellent research on a problem – the writer answers a question about disparity where minorities and women are not present. It is a very good essay informing the readers about this problem in the 21st century, which should be shocking, but it’s not shocking it happens every day in all sectors including health care.
