I struck up a conversation with a local salesman who sounded equally wistful, “Mardi Gras is still fun, but it used to be very different. The whole season used to be a festive time. I might have a brunch at my house and my wife’s sister might have a brunch at her house, and you went from house to house and celebrated all day.
