the article uses one person's story to illustrate its point that minorities, of either gender or race, both represented by this individual, are very much underrepresented in science and engineering in universities--both in classes and in professional positions. it would have been better to include more info, statistics, the relative difficulty getting hired in the private sector, and whether other minorities have the same problems, for example. the issue of the difficulty of change from corporation to university seems in this piece to be as important.
