No matter where I went, I found the history of African people," Stevenson told The Times. "Bali, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Scotland everywhere I went there would be some aspect of the history of Africans or African-Americans. I was fascinated. Full Story »

This is a short story about discovering and sharing black history in Paris. It only scratches the surface.

The black music artists who found acceptance and fame in France is a large story in itself.

Sometimes the best journalism comes from telling a really good story that truly informs. This is one of them. A rare look at a subject not often seen in our daily news

It’s a fun interesting article that makes me excited to learn about the history of Blacks who’ve traveled all across the world. To see the chain of events that led one person on a journey to simply entertain friends and share a bit of history, to establishing an actual business enterprise is absolutely amazing.

One wonders how enlightened the French really were in welcoming American Blacks. Uncritically accepts the image of the enlightened French. One suspects the reality was more complex and the French less enlightened than it might appear.

A very interesting article on the blacks who either moved or escaped prosecution from America. Jack Johnson, who some say was the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, came to France before moving to Cuba. After some time he turned himself in to American law enforcement to pull time for a law that was made just for him.

Obama has a bill on his desk that would pardon Johnson and take the black-eye off an American Legend.

No, this is not quality journalism. I clicked on the article because the headline was captivating, but the article not only gave barely any factual information about African-American history or populations in Paris, it also seemed to assume I knew the people that were being mentioned in the article. It seemed more like a personal journal entry than a news story.

I clicked on this article because I thought that the headline brought up a very interesting topic. I actually studied abroad in Paris and wanted to see if I could learn more about African Americans history there. I think it would have been better to talk about the (non American) populations from Africa in France (which are huge) and how they are treated. What specifically are African Americans treated like in Paris? I actually had a discussion about this in one of my classes ... More »

It reads like a memoir...a personal reflection of ones experience... a human interest story...maybe a journal entry. I do not rate this as I would a news report…because it is not. This is written for a local New Jersey newspaper and its respective audience.

As professor, Ali Mazrui says, and I paraphrase, "The sun always sets on someone from the African Diaspora." Meaning there are people of African descent everywhere. This personal story reflected that thought and it was a delightful read.
