As Ronald Walters, a University of Maryland professor and expert on African-American leadership and politics, says, we are witnessing a showdown over ideology. “You have this group that has been carrying the ideology of free enterprise, militarism and supporting the rich,” Walters said. “But when you look at the stimulus package, it has strong provisions that benefit the middle-class and the poor. That’s not what they have been doing for the last 30 years.”
