For being a poet, Ethelbert Miller is just as apt with prose; he gives us something to think about, with the crossroads President Obama's election brings.

Even though I'm white, I'm convinced we still need the likes of Black History Month & the NAACP; Miller Time is still eons away!

Miller takes on an important issue, but I'd like to hear more about just what we're missing by ignoring black history most of the time. This piece does a nice job awakening listeners to the issue, but doesn't compel us to work harder to learn the black chords of American history.

There’s been a lot of talk about abolishing black history month, but this piece wasn’t particularly compelling as to why we shouldn’t get rid of black history month. There’s only one piece really, that sparked some kind of realization or that I deemed thought-provoking and that’s the bit where the author declares, “Black history is American history (not this part). Its two trains running . . .” For some odd reason after the series of metaphors I realized how engrained in American history is Black history. Without black people this nation would not have been what it is today. Perhaps developing on this idea more would have helped make the cause for preserving black history month stronger.
