Holder's speech caused some controversy because of the "nation of cowards" line in the beginning of the speech. It's worth watching the entire speech, which is nuanced, contextual, and touching.

Full of context and fact. AG Holder's use of the phrase "a nation of cowards" has been widely reported across the media without any additional context to frame it; doing so has done a great disservice to the thoughtfulness and insight in his visionary speech.

As I listened to the speech, I kept thinking how wonderfully full of history it was. Then at (12:28), Holder states that he was "a former American history major", and it shows. This reinforces what I strongly believe: if you want to know your future, you have to know the past -- it's so important to study history.
