Fed indictments tell how H-1B visas were used to undercut wages

U.S. announces arrests in several states alleging visa fraud

Federal authorities allege that in some cases, H-1B workers were paid the prevailing wages of low-cost regions and not necessarily the higher salaries paid in the locations where they worked. By doing this, the companies were "displacing qualified American workers and violating prevailing wage laws," said federal authorities in a statement announcing the indictments. Full Story »

This is a much more compelling article than the other one submitted today on this story. It provides details and sourcing that imply a greater degree of confidence that this is indeed a problem. It still doesn't address whether or not this investigation will be expanded, and what resources will be required from the federal government to prosecute the resulting cases. Is anything being done to avoid further abuse?

The police actions are reported along with a small amount of information on immigrant labor visas.
