Journalism Education's Broader, Deeper Mission

Accepting an award from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School for Journalism & Mass Communication several months ago, former PBS NewsHour host Robert McNeil called journalism education probably "the best general education that an American citizen can get" today.

wonderful suggestions/ideas in this piece which if implemented could strengthen our democracy: teaching better journalism to anyone, including journalists, as a model for how to evaluate all news/sources of news. many projects toward this end are noted and linked. the most important point here may be that of offering this type of course to students/children at all levels.

the principals included here could be expanded to include newstrust criteria for evaluation
