One Market Under God

The whole reason we've got minimum wage law and other labor laws is that left to their own designs businesses colluded with each other, fixed their prices, and paid their workers next to nothing in horrible life-threatening conditions (and some of those laborers were children).

Capitalism is great and it works, but without policing, rules, and enforcement it is the playground of devils - devoid of morality and a pariah on our society. We learned ... Full Story »

This is a blog. I think some other reviewers may have missed the sources because they consist of links rather than in the text. The writer states his opinion, gives his reasons, and references them. Is it good journalism? Well, it is a fine op/ed piece :D

Another opinion piece that adds little more than emotion to the discussion of minimum wage. With the links, it is better sourced than George Wills' column on the same subject.

Almost no evidence, even though evidence should be easy to find to make this point. Use of sarcasm. Links to the sources that triggered this post. Doesn't say who "Nardelli" is.

It's barely journalism at all. The story implies that poor people are paid the minimum wage. But I think most poor people, if earning at all, are in work not covered by the minimum wage, such as off-the-books labour, or self-employed. Also, the facts about Nardelli's compensation and how Home Depot workers are treated have been widely reported. Nothing new here.
