Houston's first all-girls public school to open this summer

Andres Flores, 13, explains with certainty why he prefers attending an all-boys’ school.

Opinion/interest story/ad with no statistics regarding the benefits and/or harm of single-gender classrooms. None of the research is presented, nor the controversy surrounding any of that research. None of the stats about KIPP schools either, nor the controversies about that.

Separate, but equal was repudiated, wasn't it?

I was not aware that there are so few same-sex schools in the US, or that there were only 11 in 2002.

The story merely covers the story of a school and it's desire and challenge to attract students. It does not, however, address the theories behind single-gender education, the scientific basis for the theories or some indication as to the success of the single-gender schools that are in operation. Being a teacher in a single-gender school in So. Florida - one which has been open for three years - I find that this article does not have much to offer on the topic.
