Majority of Americans View Media Coverage of Iraq as Inaccurate

A majority of Americans -- 56% -- believe that the news media's coverage of the situation in Iraq is generally inaccurate. About 4 out of 10 Americans agree that the news media's coverage of the Iraq war is accurate. By a 61% to 36% margin, those who feel that the Iraq coverage is inaccurate say it is because the media make the situation there appear worse than it actually is. Full Story »

Nice, detailed presentation of poll parameters and results. Almost no analysis, making this article very neutral. It seems like the poll could have asked a few more questions.

Factual results of a poll by a neutral organization. We are free to draw our own analysis before data are explained to us by commentators and columnists who view facts through their ideological lenses. My take is that we are a poorly informed people who view situations as we want them to be because of ideology or prejudice rather than as they are.

The raw numbers from Gallup confirm the conventional wisdom, including the existence of a conservative meme that Iraq is really coming along pretty well, if only the liberal media would tell the truth, support the troops, etc. The poll number strikingly reveal the continuing power of this conservative myth. After all, if one believes there is a liberal media conspiracy in general, it follows that one will believe there is a liberal media conspiracy to undermine the Republican war in Iraq.

Unbiased to the point of very little analyzation. Presents the facts cleanly and matter of factly. I would expect to see a report on this from some other source that provides analysis in the near future.
