Author: Education Will Win Afghanistan, Pakistan

“If you educate a boy, you educate an individual,” he said. “If you educate a girl, you educate a community.”

This is especially true in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan, where Islam is the predominant religious tradition, he said.

This story summarizes the story in the book "Three Cups of Tea" and the mission of Greg Mortenson's programs in Pakistan and Afghanistan to provide education as a means of achieving civility. There is no countervailing argument offered, so I suppose this piece is not balanced in that respect, but I'm guessing the Taliban couldn't be reached for comment.

I'm a big fan of the work of Mr. Mortenson and of the book "Three Cups of Tea."

A story I first saw on 60 minutes a few years ago. It's more true now than then. If Bush stays in Afgha., and not go into Iraq, the whole war on terror is different. Imagine the infrastructure that would be in place, the schools, police dept., the stores, etc. We dropped the ball, we need to pick it back up.

Obama needs to talk to Pakistan about the border or maybe the U.S. can piss taxpayers money somewhere else.
