Re “News You Can Endow,” by David Swensen and Michael Schmidt (see link), which says endangered newspapers can be saved if we “turn them into nonprofit, endowed institutions — like colleges and universities”:

The writers don’t seem troubled by the rule that endowed status would prevent newspapers from attempting to “influence legislation.” Candidate endorsements are not the only thing this would suppress. Wouldn’t this also ... Full Story »

There will always be newspapers, and endowment is no where near the answer. I agree with most of the editorials written here, except the part by Ms. Dufresne, kids who are interested in national and international importance will always find a place to explore for the truth. While I believe the newspaper will change, for better or worse, they will always be here in some form.

While I don't believe there will be anymore Woodward and Bernstein's, There are plenty of up and coming journalists and they will probably split their time between the web and the paper.
