Before his teacher finished explaining a reading lesson Tuesday, kindergartner Jaydon Arslanian read the word "fox" aloud.

"Jaydon, you read it before I put it up!" Christina Stout, a student teacher in the kindergarten class, said with a smile.

Looks at an education bill to change the required age for admission to kindergarden from multiple points of view. It would have been nice to have seen commentary from a child development expert and perhaps some empirical evidence to support and/or refute the anecdotal claims that are apparently behind this bill.

A local look at a national issue in public education: cut-off dates for kindergarten readiness. The reporters provide a good basic sampling of parent opinions of both sides of the issue. Overall, the piece is not in depth and could benefit from additional context, more insight into the legislative debate and other viewpoints.
