Meeting with Joint Chiefs

President Obama has asked the Pentagon's top generals to provide him with more options for troop levels in Afghanistan, two U.S. officials said late Friday, with one adding that some of the alternatives would allow Obama to send fewer new troops than the roughly 40,000 requested by his top commander. this summary using previous info, following a meeting of pres. obama with the joint chiefs is interesting in demonstrating how the pres. is working to determine how he wants to go forward in afghanistan. included here are some ideas and options which fall between the large troop surge recommended by gen. mc crystal, and the withdrawal of a stated strategy.

finding a strategy which is not either-or, as it is so often framed, seems sane to me.
