The Asia Society stands out from its neighbors on New York’s Park Avenue. altho rambling in time and place and perhaps too autobiographical, this lengthy article is filled with afghanistan's modern history brought to life by the author's personal involvement in the political life of many afghanis still creating afghanistan's furture history. it is fascinating and tells of tmuch of the violence which is such a part of the political life of the country.

only the asia society preview led me to read this story as i have been there. it saddens me that in this country we know and care so little about other places than the west. and now we are emboldened to attempt remaking them in our own image.
