Obama’s Partisan, Profane Confidant Reins It In

Early this month, Barack Obama was meeting with the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and other lawmakers when Rahm Emanuel, his chief of staff, began nervously cracking a knuckle.

Mr. Obama then turned to complain to Mr. Emanuel about his noisy habit.

At which point, Mr. Emanuel held the offending knuckle up to Mr. Obama’s left ear and, like an annoying little brother, snapped off a few special cracks.

An insightful look at President Obama's right-hand man. It contains an effective mix of quotations from high-level Obama staffers and reporter's anecdotes. The occasional anonymous source detracts from the full picture painted by named sources; including a rumor "fact" without attribution lends a gossipy tone to the piece.

A great antidotal article that seems Mr. Obama will will have to be on his toes. I think a strong President needs a strong Chief of Staff to tell him yes when he's right, But be quick to tell him NO when he has to.

Mr. Emanuel should try the ole wet finger in the ear if Obama start's to nod off. Works every time.
