Historical Mystery of Bush's Presidency

beyond the issue of accountability for lawbreaking, there is another even more daunting challenge, how to replace the political and media institutions that aided and abetted the Bush administration’s assault on the nation’s constitutional principles and on reason itself.

After all, one can only solve the mystery of how George W. Bush became President -- and inflicted so much damage -- by taking into account the collaboration of Washington's ... Full Story »

An excellent summary of Bush's imperial presidency the media helped create using the nation's terror about the 9/11 as the basis. The media not only abetted, but in large measure, fashioned Republican neo fascism, becoming efficient propaganda machines in the finest tradition of Goebbels and Stalin. The horror is that the media still have a major political agenda not in keeping with the traditional doctrines of journalism.

Like the Free-Market-Follies myth, out-of-control centralized media also become corrupt and irresponsible. But media can be made responsible–including some of the reckless, unscrupulous cable and radio channels–by reinstating the proper authority of the FCC, and restoring the concept that the airwaves really do belong to the people. Breaking up centralized media ownership will also go a long way to bring back responsibility.

Parry explores the forces behind the enabling of the Bush disaster, and finds the major culprit is the corporate media that has ceased to have journalistic ethics. The mystery lies just below the surface.

The state of the media needs to be changed, less such a disaster be repeated via media bias and manipulation.

Superb commentary on the catastrophe that befell America these past eight years. Robert Parry gives great credit to corporate media which fostered a collective foolishness on the part of the public, and enabled the Bush administration to attempt to subvert the Republic.

The confluence of corporate media, the ever-more-powerful military-industrial complex, and the Israel lobby (including Christian Zionists) set up the nation for the catastrophe that befell it. Aipac helped the Republicans subvert the Republic, by coopting the Democrats, all in an idiotic quest to "protect" Israel and enable it to keep the illegal colonies of Jewish fanatics in the West Bank, and the Golan Heights.

Nice recap of the sins of the Bush (#43) administration, and good in pointing out that there was little effective response to the massive Republican spin machine. Not very helpful, though, in offering solutions.

We need to develop antidotes to the spin and lies that are fed to us in the commercial media. (Sorry, I don't know the answer, either.)

I think an even better story would be why Bush senior lost his reelection bid. Bush senior might have been the most qualified president ever, and successful in office. Barack Obama is also under qualified for the job in comparison to Bush senior. Also, the same media that allowed Bush jr to trick america, is doing the same thing for Obama only by left media.

It has been satisfying to observe the criticism of Bush's presidency but I have wondered why people don't seem to recognize that we allowed this to happen. This article goes a long way towards explaining how so many people were misled. It's so important that this must not be allowed to happen again.
