Obama’s Promise to the World Is Hailed From Tanzania to Japan

From frigid Toronto to the Protestant University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, from Rome’s Spanish Steps to the dusty streets of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the citizens of the world paused to witness Obama’s inauguration, expressing joy at the moment along with anxiety over whether he can live up to the hope he has engendered. This went beyond what I'd expected, quoting people from Japan to Kenya to Canada who had strong and genuine words about Barack Obama's inauguration yesterday. Lacks some context, but does an impressive job capturing global reaction to the new president.

Interesting roundup of reactions to Obama's inauguration from around the world. The report cites largely positive responses, but doesn't point out that the methodology used by the reporters is largely anecdotal, and not necessarily representative of the world opinion as a whole. Still, an insightful and interesting read.

The article is an interesting sampler of how some folks around the world view America's first Bi-Racial President, all of it positive. Its not exactly jouralism but more "Man In The Street Opinion Pol" interesting non the less.

While I didn't vote for Obama along with 48% of America I do hope he is able to mend relations around the world so badly damaged by the previous administration.

Interesting and involved look at global reactions to Obama's inauguration. Quotes are offered from a very wide geographical range, addressing a number of topics. More critical voices could be included, but there is no shortage of diverse opinions presented here.

The outside world's response to our recent change of leadership is a prelude to their role in the success or failure of the Obama administration. The more familiar we are with outside perspectives, the more productive we can be in setting and meeting goals on a global scale.

A ridiculous puff piece for Obama. What is his promise to the world anyway? To be a politician and hand out money for votes?

A fascinating collection of opinions on the new president's prospects, largely from friends. U.S. adversaries should also weigh in. Statements from Iraqi citizens, taliban members, the editors of Middle Eastern press outlets like al Jazeera would all enrich the story. We Americans could use some perspective on this charismatic, exciting young president who seems to have swept us all off our feet.
