Inspiring speech by Barack Obama, leading by example on his first day as U.S. President. His comments, are factual, fair and deeply insightful, as confirmed by the enthusiastic public reaction from around the world.

While this does not quite fit the definition of journalism, I felt it was important to include this speech in our opinion section, because so many stories on our site refer to it. We are very lucky to have such an exceptional leader with such a clear message, at a time when we need thoughtful guidance more than ever before in recent history.

The new President acknowledges our flaws as a nation, recalls our own tainted history, and promises a new and more collaborative approach to foreign policy based on mutual interest and mutual respect.

This is what the world has been waiting to hear, eloquently expressed: The perfect antidote to follow eight years of "cowboy diplomacy." Now all we have to do is live up to this new vision, and make good on the promises. I'm ready for this change!
