Palestine: Assessing the Aftermath in Gaza

On Sunday evening the Israel Defense Forces began a troop withdrawal from Gaza, following three straight weeks of attacks. Israel's unilateral ceasefire was announced earlier in the day, and met with an offer for a one-week ceasefire from Hamas, the full text of which is here. This captures some of the situation obtaining in Gaza as the dust starts to settle in the wake of the Israeli rampage.

I agree with Bashar al-Assad that Hamas is a necessary party to a settlement of the Palestine/Israel problem, and that Hamas would accept Israel within its pre-1967 borders. This frenzy of death and destruction has done more damage than good to Israel.
