Eyeless in Gaza

Israel has the right to hit back at Hamas when attacked—but not to blow Gaza to pieces, or deprive people of food, water, and medicine. In at least one appalling incident at Zeitoun, on the east of Gaza City, where children were found next to their mothers' days-old corpses, the International Red Cross has accused Israel of an "unacceptable" failure "to meet its obligation under international law to care for and evacuate the wounded." Israel denies ... Full Story »

There is much frustration driving this article. What is saddest about the entire Palestine-Israel mess is that everyone is right, and everyone is wrong. Everyone shares equal blame that the many opportunities for peaceful solutions have been squandered, and that so many more opportunities are yet be squandered.

As history has shown time and time again–conflicts, arguments, and wars are transformed into ghastly, inhuman actions of atrocities when emotions become the motivating factor.

Much of what Cohen says in this very well-written opinion on the war in Gaza has been said before. However, there are some key insights i had not read elsewhere, such as hi contention that Israeli's are deluding themselves into thinking that Hamas is going away.

There is another right that Israel does not have: to delude its people into thinking that peace is achievable without coming to terms with the deeply entrenched Middle ... More »

a cry of despair by this writer over hopes of peace between israel and gaza. her points out that gaza has been offered nothing but sticks, with no carrots ( one, economic activity which neither israel, nor u.s. nor the world has provided might have helped ), a strategy without hope for a future.

It's one more 'insightful' piece on the conflict, emphasizing the irrational polarized thinking that's gotten everyone to this point.

And it never will end, will it? Each side thinks it can make the other side disappear with just a little more pressure.

Outstanding summary by Roger Cohen of the strategic idiocy of Israel in smashing Gaza in an effort to destroy Hamas.

Full credit for the current insane orgy of death and destruction by the Israeli militarists should be given to the arrogant ignoramus about to depart the White House, to Dick Cheney and his gang of subverters of the American Republic, and to Elliott Abrams who in effect is an agent of the Israeli militarists subverting the national security of the US while operating out of the White House.

MY God! Never in my lifetime did I think of concentration camps and the word Holocaust, and not associate it with Israel. I Had never, before this great article, heard the phrase "Only the dead vote in Jerusalem"

This atrocity will go down in history as one of the most stupid things that Israel could have ever done to stop the bombing in Gaza. For another century, Palestian's will seek revenge, and sooner or later, they may well get it.
