This is a hard story to rate. It is in-depth, and takes on the issue with the gravity it is due. As with a lot of Times coverage of this issue, however, the piece gets lost in moral hedging, in constantly needing to reiterate "But Hamas is bad too". The piece deals with the differences in death tolls from the pages of the military, not considering breadth of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Nevertheless, I give the piece very high points for enterprise. This is a tricky topic, and the Times should get credit for taking it on.
