Pro-Israel Rally Attended by Big-Time NY Dems Descends into Calls for 'Wiping Out' Palestinians

Attendants of a rally joined by Sen. Chuck Schumer and Gov. David Paterson in support of Israel's attacks on Gaza went far beyond the pale.

If you are a bad person, a whining enemy or a strong-arm occupier, you are not my brother, even if you are circumcised, observe the Sabbath, and do mitzvahs.- Avraham Burg Full Story »

The article and video use interviews of a small number of extreme, ill informed and bigoted rally attendees to project guilt on the politicians who spoke at the rally. This propaganda piece may be useful in the effort to break the Israeli lobby's hold on US foreign policy but it is not good journalism.

I believe that Israel's attack on Gaza with its killing and wounding of many innocents is not just disproportionate -- it is wrong. It is not moral. It will not promote the long term security of Israel, will not wipe out terrorism rooted in misery and hopelessness, and is certainly not consitent with legitimate US interests. However, obviously one sided "news" pieces like this one that support further polarization make progress toward peace and long term security all the more difficult.

The video is remarkable. The mindless minions for massacre make ones jaw drop. The video show elected major Democratic figures feeding the frenzy with no hints shown of evenhandedness.

One should see this to get a feeling of the kinds of people who are driving strongly in the opposite direction from peace and coexistence.

What is presented are facts about who attended rally and quotes of what was said at the rally. The opinions in the story were expressed by the subjects and not the writer. Writer attempted to show that not all Jews are like those that attended the rally by quoting a Jewish Holocaust survivor.

It is a news report, something happening now, from the underside of the issue, where the behavior of a crowd provides an epiphany into its fundamental prejudice and racism, supported by leaders who are held in high public esteem. It is an intense siren warning of possible mass hysteria that could lead to all-out war between Jews/Christians and Arabs/Muslims, in which highly complex and technological weapons are used against comparatively primitive populations who are only a minor threat to their more powerful enemies. It calls into question the very concept of "enemy", used so blatently by the Bush/Cheney crowd to terrorize Iraq. Though not directly referenced, the article identifies the kind of spirit that cost McCain the ... More »

The fever has possessed Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama. Islam is evil, Judaism is good. Christianity is even better, as long as it agrees with Judaism. Most Americans voted against the Bush Doctrine in the presidential election, and my hope they will vote against it when Schumer comes up for re-election.

During the second world war it was reported that some Americans wrote to their relatives who were fighting the Japanese asking them to bring back a "Jap Ear" as a souvenire. The soldiers who received such requests were reported to be highly shocked by them. This is the same phenomenon. People far far behind the front being complete pigs. You would be hard pressed to find any Israeli who had such sentiments. There are many (admitidly strained) friendships between Israelis and ... More »

Max Blumenthal is well worth reading, almost without fail. Highlighting the shameless pandering to Israeli militarists by US politicians is valuable reporting.

Israeli idiocy in dealing with Hezbollah and Hamas puts its own long-term security at risk as well as the national security of the US. Israel needs to accept the Arab peace plan and get out of the West Bank and the Golan Heights, and stop oppressing the Palestinians.

Someone has to expose these haters and Alternet does a good job.

I'm revolted by people calling for the deaths of Palestinians and conflating Islam with terrorism. Muslims are not terrorists, but Americans are too stupid to know that. So I'm going to reprint a portion of this article on my blog, maybe educate some bigots.

I am willing to bet that whatever Israel does, the rockets will not stop. And remember, the longer range rockets are manufactured in China, sold to Iran, and smuggled into Gaza. Iran can always send longer range, more accurate rockets, either to Hamas or Hezbollah. Nothing Israel does in Gaza inflicts any harm on Iran.
