Bush’s ’Ultimate Exit Interview’

In Last News Conference, He Opens Up on Ups and Downs

Asked about mistakes he had made while in office -- a question that once famously stumped him -- Bush rattled off several examples, saying that he regretted his decision to focus on Social Security reform after the 2004 elections, a drive that proved unsuccessful, instead of first addressing immigration issues. He wishes he could have succeeded in destroying social security and putting retirement money in the stock market at the top of the bubble. The scandal around Abu Ghraib was disappointing, not his moral depravity in enabling it. His only question on Katrina was whether to land his airplane there or not? Illegal war only damages us among some of the elite? Iraq did disclose and disarm.

The report added little to the interview. The interview is only enlightening in that it shows Bush's dissociation from reality and his continued joy on painting rosey lipstick on ugly pigs. I share his happiness that he is leaving office. But is there an appropriate prison in Crawford?

This is quality journalism -- balanced, accurate, and fairly thorough, though I wish his "joyous daily" quote had been included. If journalists won't say it, we should at least be exposed to the phrase that more than any other showed Bush's relation to the citizens of his country and the world was one of dissociation.

Though Bush is a proven, chronic, pathological liar and his "joyous daily" words were also probably a lie to impress equally disconnected religious types, Bush, Like Nero as Rome burned, painted himself as "joyous," as he trampled our Constitution; as people were washed away by Katrina; as his policies dumped extra hundreds of millions of tons of toxins into our water, land, and air; as a mountain of Iraqi women, children, and grandparents were killed; as our economic structure ... Simply reporting what someone has said without challenging or supporting the validity is a poor use of ink.

The only intelligence failure in this administration was between the ears of its two leaders.

What is missing from the exit interview and this account, is the Iraq War catastrophe. How is it possible Bush cannot regret an unnecessary war that is costing trillions of dollars and has caused the needless violent deaths of many hundreds of thousands of people?

G W Bush was the dupe of the Cheney gang who seem to have been well aware Iraq had no WMD and that the war was being launched under false pretenses. Bush will not admit this to the world, of coursel, and very likely he is unwilling to admit it to himself. Bush is the victim of one of the greatest scams in the history of the US.

A re-tailing of the Bush Interview. I'd already seen it on T.V.

Bush defending his decisions, or whomever decisions they were. Disgusting.

It wasn't an exit interview, it was a CYA session. He was trying to re-write history. The impeachment should have gone forward.

I too wish this article had included Bush's comment about his Presidency being "Joyous" every day. He didn't get it then and he never will.
