Gaza thirsts as sewage crisis mounts

Gaza's aquifer and only natural freshwater source is "in danger of collapse," the UN is warning.

Engineers have long been battling to keep the densely populated strip's water and sewage system limping along.

Focused report on the issues of sewage treatment and water quality in Gaza, and the implications for public health and environmental quality.

Calm but factual, Sharp recounts the water quality issues and outlook without venturing in any depth into the underlying political causes the problem, or the bleak outlook for Gaza residents. On the one hand, this is an admirable quality, and an excellent article. On the other hand, those underlying causes warrant close examination in order to bring resolution to the problem, and clean, safe water to the residents imprisonedand under siege in Gaza.
