My understanding is that Elliott Abrams planned the Fatah coup and that he was very unhappy that it was pre-empted by the Hamas counter-coup. Abrams, of course, is a veteran of illegal wars, illegal arms sales, promotes the illegal use of US supplied weapons against Arab civilians, etc. etc. Abrams is the son-in-law of Norman Podhoretz who has earned his nickname of propaganda minister of the neocons.
