Very pertinent, factual reminders of the recent history of US and Israeli actions taken to marginalize the elected Palestinian government immediately after Hamas won the 2006 election. Fascinating report, that suggests the Bush administration set up the counter-coup by Hamas, in Gaza, as part of a plan to put in motion the current murderous Israeli assault on Gaza (by discrediting the elected government).

My understanding is that Elliott Abrams planned the Fatah coup and that he was very unhappy that it was pre-empted by the Hamas counter-coup. Abrams, of course, is a veteran of illegal wars, illegal arms sales, promotes the illegal use of US supplied weapons against Arab civilians, etc. etc. Abrams is the son-in-law of Norman Podhoretz who has earned his nickname of propaganda minister of the neocons.
