The book review pretty well analyzes the problems, past and current, of the Israeli Palestinian conflict and the US role in it. It was written before the current Israeli assault on Hamas. It conveys the increasing sense of hopelessness of the situation, but has a good suggestion for the incoming administration - ' don't rush'.

Until there are two sides who feel that they have more to gain from even a tenuous peace than from unending war the conflict will never be resolved, the killing will never end. Hamas won't be destroyed by these bombs; Israel won't disappear because of the rockets or the suicide bombs. And neither group can accept this.
