This article details how the Democratic Congress, led by Pelosi and Reid, was complicit with the Bush Admnistration in 2008 in enhancing executive power and diminishing the authority of law and the Constitution by giving the phone companies immunity for illegally eavesdropping on people and by legalizing warrantless searches by the government, Oh yes, and they were complicit in the abandonment of Habeas Corpus - we have to rely on the slim reed of GOP appointed appeals court and supreme court justices to maintain this bedrock principle. Progressives: these Democratic representatives and senators who refused to fight the erosion of Constitutional authority are our purported allies over the next 4 years. With allies like these ...

Greenwald outlines the atrocious successful attacks upon the constitution and civil liberties enabled by an extremely compliant Democratic party lack of leadership, and Obama's supine reversal. He puts forward that the time has come to restore the constitution, if the democrats can find a spine.

Subverting the Republic was a means of keeping the people crightened and confused, so they support gargantuan "defense" spending and idiotic (but profitable, enormously, for some) foreign interventions.

While the rest of the country was sleeping, Mr. Greenwald was doing his homework. An excellent retrospective of What Bush & co. did to violate the human rights of foreigners and American's in their own country. Unbelievable.

Nancy and Harry sold out the American people by not even trying to stop Bush & his thugs. I hope Obama show's more backbone with other issues than he did about America'd rights.

This is a quality journalism that reviews the past year of civil liberty abuses committed by the Bush administration and the failure of Congress to do anything about it.

Pieces like this rescue history from the Memory Hole.
