The problem with Israel-Palestine blogging

Point out that Israel is killing a lot of civilians and you are told that they had to do something in response to the Hamas rockets. Point out that practically, the response they chose has absolutely no strategic or tactical benefit, and a huge potential downside, and you are castigated for your lack of moral outrage about Hamas's attacks on civilians. She lost me when she said, "there's a tendency to forget, or forget to mention, that whatever the provocation, a majority of Palestinians constantly and actively wish to kill large numbers of Israelis purely for revenge." Explaining what is going on in the simplest terms possible,without sacrificing facts, is a journalistic achievement.

Excellent insight into the terrible situation, my only question is, how is this so very different than what the USA did to Afghanistan and Iraq? -once again we witness how retaliation and revenge bombing are political tactics.

As the editor of both an online and print publications of interest to the Jewish community, I fully understand Ms. McArdle's feelings about being caught between a rock and a hard place with this subject. I always try to take a balanced view in my writings on the situation, but no matter which way I turn, I am blasted as being anti-Palestinian or anti-Israel, or worst of all anti-Semitic, which is a hard accusation to take when you devote most of your waking life to promoting Jewish interests.
