Israel deludes itself in thinking Hamas can be crushed, by stragling the economy of Gaza and by airstrikes taking out numerous civilians as well as Hamas fighters. Hamas was created to prevent Israel from keeping the illegal settlements in the West Bank. Ironically, Hamas would be Israel's helpmate in ensuring order in Gaza, if an independent Palestine were created. This would mean Israel accepting the Green Line as the international frontier and give up the attempts to steal permanently large portions of the West Bank.
