In Dense Gaza, Civilians Suffer

Five days of Israeli airstrikes have surpassed past operations in scale and intensity; the long-distance bombardment of the Hamas-controlled territory has, however well aimed at those suspected of being militants, splintered families and shattered homes in one of the most densely populated places on Earth. A moving report on the plight of civilians in Gaza, where over 320 people have been killed after five days of Israeli airstrikes. This article focuses on the stories of two victims of this violence, a doctor and an eight-year old girl, both of whom died from their wounds. The report is factual, and provides information from a variety of different sources, as well as helpful context.

I'm deeply disturbed by the fact that civilized nations like Israel keep resorting to such brutal behavior, which inevitably will cause retaliations, and more harm to their citizens. When will we learn that violence is rarely effective in conflict resolution? When will we grow up and start behaving like responsible adults, rather than sectarian thugs? Leaders from both Israel and Hamas share the blame for their shameful actions.

Given how difficult it is to get journalists into Gaza, it is unclear how the author is accessing his sources, but many interviews come from hospitals.

This is not quality journalism. It leaves out the fact that Hamas uses civilians as human shields. It makes no mention of the fact that Hamas refuses to allow the wounded to be transported to Israel or Egypt where they can get better treatment.

The people of Gaza voted for Hamas which vows the destruction of Israel. The people of Gaza voted for war. It appears they are getting a belly full. They are reaping the rewards of their vote. In the end the people are getting the government they deserve.
