Conservatives Maintain Edge as Top Ideological Group

Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This is simply a straight reporting of survey results. It offers no particular analysis, except to conclude that Independents show the greatest move toward conservative principles. It could have been improved had there been some analysis of how the results could have been affected by the greatest economic recession since the depression.
