This is an interesting story about an important subject. However, it leaves more questions unanswered than it answers. I tried to find the seven points and failed to see that many. Facts and detail are important, but lacking.

Excellent, insightful analysis of complex issues, players and stakes in Afghanistan.

There is no way to "victory" in Afghanistan by military force. The best we can hope for is to negotiate an agreement with the most responsible moderate powers, with peacekeepers from acceptable Muslim states. We don't belong there, and we need to leave safely by establishing meaningful alliances for a stable government for the Afghan people.

Essential reading for those following the situation in Afghanistan, including Barack Obama. The author makes a good case for thinking the military solution is the wrong course to follow. The story mentions that Iran is the enemy of the Taliban and al-Qaeda, but not the fact that Iran also warns the West that their military activity in Afghanistan is making the situation worse.

I agree with Zbig Brzezinski that Obama's plan to carry out G W Bush's substantial enlargement of the American military involvement in Afghanistan, is a mistake.

The author makes it seem like negotiating with the Talitan is a walk in the park. I would,t trust Mullah Omar to babysit my rat.

How soon we forget that the Taliban are nothing but ruthless thugs who treat goats better than they treat women. I strongly disagree with war, but we are there and we can't leave Afghanistan to these barbarians.
