I like his assertions about things like domestic violence and labor unions once regarded as "fringe issues", as well mas his assertion that Martin Luther King "was certainly not a centrist", in spite of those on the right trying to exploit him.

Hopefully the center will get a little further back to the left now.

The author say's "today's radical is tomorrow's normative" That sounds about right to me.

What the hell is the big deal. I'm a firm believer in Gay Rights, gay marriage, or gay divorce. Let the bastard get up, talk two minutes, and sit the hell down. It's not world changing, it's not even life changing.Put some cotton in your ears for two minutes and everything will be fine.

History does not move inevitably to the left. That idea died around 1990. In fact, its been moving the other way since at least 1980. Obama's a politician not a revolutionary. Expect him to have no original ideas and to struggle to stay out of trouble.
