The reporter did a good job of telling the reader what's wrong with newspapers, but all reporters and editors need to find out what they can do right, to get their readership back.

While the author claims that people quit reading newspapers because "they can get it free somewhere else" he fails to realize that most people feel a kinship with their local newspaper that is unexplainable. Instead of trying to be the biggest newspaper in town, try being the best. I live in the country and drive nine miles every morning to get my fresh newspaper. While I love the hard news and sports, I wouldn't drive that far if it wasn't for my local news. While property taxes, pot holes, and the local festivals may be boring to most reporters trying to make a name for themselfs, it's the local's who buy the paper and buy the products the ad guys love.
