it is always easier to believe something is well written when you agree with them.

Scorched earth politics does not work any better than scorched earth warfar, Sherman cut the South into pieces and possibly shortened the war. but 150 years later, southerners are still pissed about it.

Fails to address the civil rights concern of many liberals, who are concerned that the Prop 8 issue isn't more than a disagreement, but actually a fight for equal rights for a group of Americans. An argument could be constructed against this point, but Weinberger doesn't offer it.

Insightful perspective on the art of listening to people we disagree with. Dave Weinberger, co-author of the Cluetrain Manifesto, makes a good case for listening to the 'other side,' to discover shared values. The author suggests Obama's is redefining politics by getting us to find what's best in our fellow citizens (rather than sneer at those who disagree with us). Observant, well-thought out, engaging article about the defining issue of our times.

He's got the right attitude. As the saying goes. 'let us be known for our differences, not just our similarities.'

Not well thought out.....pandering to so called centerist....no news value, as in ZERO.

Logic is left out. the track record of attempting to placate the extreme right tells us it can not be done with a token move.This address is optional and could have been skipped entirely, it should be a time for healing not radical right opinions. The extreme right might be better addressed with the stern father and informed that the law needs to be carefully enforced for all law breakers.
