Cheney Admits Detainee-Abuse Role

Vice President Dick Cheney said for the first time Monday that he helped get the “process cleared” for the brutal interrogation program of suspected terrorists.

In an interview with ABC News, Cheney was matter-of-fact and unapologetic about the harsh techniques used against the detainees — including waterboarding Full Story »

Clear and straightforward compilation of quotes by Vice President Cheney articulating his role in authorizing torture of US prisoners. Also includes the lead roles of the Principals Committee (including President George W. Bsh, Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, CIA Director George Tenet, and Attorney General John Ashcroft) in authorizing specific torture methods to be used on specific prisoners.

It is not surprising that VP Cheney and the Bush Administration's key players have convinced themselves that they have done nothing wrong. What surprises me is that they seem to believe that they can simply repeat their--um--inaccurate interpretation of facts to convince the majority of the American public of their innocence...let alone the rest of the world.

“If Obama and [Attorney General-designate Eric] Holder want to adhere to our Constitution and uphold our highest values, they must pursue those in the Bush administration ... More »

This article lays out the facts and doesn't pull its punches when it comes to Vice President Cheney's direct involvement in authorizing war crimes, including torture, by the Bush administration.

I agree with the assessment voiced at the conclusion of this article--we MUST hold accountable those who perpetrated these crimes if we expect to regain international respect.

Leopold reports on Cheney blithely confessing to violating international law. Information from the Senate report, Conyers, Rice, and opinions from the CCR are also included.

This gradual shift from denying torture, keeping it secret as long as possible, from not challenging accusations to admitting them on major tv seems like an attempt to condition the public not to be outraged, and thus not prosecute Bush and Cheney and others. I think impeachment has been and still is proper and called for, and that they should be prosecuted when out of office.

This is a story that should wake the American people. Without people making this an issue of national security, and a gross violation of the Constitution, These guys will get away with murder.

To say I was appalled by Cheney saying "So it's a remarkable successful effort. I think the results speak for themself", would be putting it mildly. Never in my lifetime did I think the President and the Vice-President would openly admit violating the rules of the Geneva Convention, and make a sham out of one of the most sacred documents in this nation's history, the Constitution of the United States of American. If a special prosecutor can be appointed for a man who had an affair ... More »
