If you examine the actual policy positions of those Americans who eschew the liberal label, you'll see that the vast majority of Americans, whatever they may call themselves, embrace the "liberal" position on virtually every significant issue. Despite what the title indicates, Eric Alterman does little to make a compelling case that the United States is or isn't "center-right" and instead spends most of his time in a frustrated meditation on the term "liberal."

This is an example of why I canceled my subscription to the Nation back in April. The magazine's political coverage and commentary became more and more inane as the election heated up, and it's a pity to see that the momentum for lame, mainline liberal punditry is still strong.
