While government can and should debate and criticize opposition voices, the current White House goes beyond that. It wants to delegitimize any significant dissent. The objective is no secret. White House aides openly told Politico that they're engaged in a deliberate campaign to marginalize and ostracize recalcitrants, from Fox to health insurers to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The article is typical Krauthammer - it is a weekly libretto from which a week or two of opera featuring straw-men supported by an orchestra of misquotes or contorted facts. He accomplishes this by presenting his opinion in the Socratic method. That is to say ... he makes a series of statements that are mostly true and as one is nodding in agreement ... he slips in something that isn't true at all. Kind of like sticking the pill from the vet in a spoon of peanut butter for Fido.
