Informed, insightful analysis of the current risk of major Al Qaeda attack in US any time soon. Well-reasoned and supported by information about improved security measures and the virtual absence of concrete terrorist plots or acts since 9/11. Bergen does not dismiss the long-term threat, but comes to a well-reasoned conclusion that "the likelihood of a terrorist attack on the United States again in its (the Obama administration's) early days by Al Qaeda is close to zero."

Comforting conclusion--reassuring at a time when I am deeply concerned about reaction against Obama by America's radical racists.

If Al Qaeda can’t get people into the country, doesn’t have sleeper cells here and is unable to garner support from the American Muslim community, then how does it pull off an attack in the United States? While a small-bore attack may be organized by a Qaeda wannabe at some point, a catastrophic mass-casualty assault anything along the lines of 9/11 is no longer plausible.
