Should we have executed Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee?

So why should anyone cheer the imminent execution of Saddam Hussein, however much one may believe that if capital punishment is ever justified, then he surely qualifies? Can any sane person believe that his execution will in any manner whatsoever serve to bring any further stability to Iraq? This blog post asks a good question: does waxing Saddam Hussein do anyone any good? He makes that point that it probably doesn't. But the point is made from a distinctively US point of view, not terribly relevant to Iraq.

Yes. The raising of questions from wide viewpoints is always proper. This article is almost all question and little substance on its own. The benefits of this type article are most evident in the comments rather than the body.
