The Top 10 Stories You Missed in 2008

Along with reducing troop levels in Iraq, President-elect Barack Obama has pledged to dramatically increase the U.S. presence in Afghanistan in a strategy similar to the “surge,” which proved so effective in reducing violence in Iraq. Although the wisdom of such an approach will surely be hotly debated in the coming months, the truth is that the Afghanistan surge has, to a certain extent, already begun. In the first half of 2008, the Bush ... Full Story »

The writing is clear and strong, and the examples present important unreported or under-reported issues of concern. Kudos to FP for focusing attention on these issues. Now, who will do the follow-up?

Each of these issues is significant, and scary to one degree or another. The title is catchy to get you to read a collage of stories. Those that cascade from Bush/cheney/neocon international foolishness include Afghanistan, Russia in Africa, Sudan, star wars escalation in India, coca in Columbia, luxury hotel aid in Georgia, protester suppression weapons in China. Other stories include a torture trial, manufacturing lack of quality control in China, and greenhouse gases from solar panels. Each story deserves its own review.

Most of the missed story disasters are Bushasters done in our name or incited by our actions.
