The article wanders through a lot of reasons, stated and hypothesized. A few interesting statistics are included. Mostly it is titillating, without a lot of satisfying answers.

Worth reading. This article pretty much covers the scope of motivations that are linked to prostitution. Various perspectives are offered, though most concentrate on the negative aspects of prostitution. What might have been useful would be more concentration on the healing potential prostitutes often engage; the only real reference to this had to do with ancient times.

Though I have never personally been involved with a prostitute, I know men whose closest relationships--often over a span of twenty or thirty years with the same woman--have been with women whom they pay for a sexual relationship. One man, devoted to his wife and children, simply depends on a very loving prostitute for the emotional support and sexual connection that is missing from his marriage--the best solution he has found, since he knows that the woman he pays will not ...
