The free market has actually tackled climate change but not the way it might have liked to. The free market has caused the collapse of the world economy with no bottom yet in site. Until the bottom is reached, we will be using less and less of the world's resources and producing less and less carbon dioxide. This little glitch might have just given us the breathing space to tackle our dependence on fossil fuel but probably not. If we manage to crash the ecology which gives us so much of our wealth for free, the present downturn will seem like a picnic.
