The world is a dangerous place, the more we have accurate timely info to evaluate whether this is merely saber rattling or something more sinister the better

In the 1980s we warned that star wars would lead to a new round of new balistic missles, as well as the diplomatic costs, now that we have progressed those predictions have come true, And the damn thing still doesn't work and probably never will.

This article supplies hard evidence that Bush's deployment of a "missile shield" system (especially near Russia) will likely spark a new arms race. Such an arms race was effectively forestalled by the old ABM treaty which Bush has pretty much done away with.

The firing of a new Russian ICBM could be major news. The article reports the bare facts of the launch and Russian claims of capability, with no background or opinion appended. The article deserves more.

Bush's foolhardy ballistic missile defense is publicly claimed to be designed only for simple missiles like the Koreans have, but suspicions abound that the Department of Offense wants to develop it for sophisticated threats like the Russian missiles. Offense is cheaper than defense, and the Russians seem to be leapfrogging the threat of the bushies. Depressed trajectories, MIRVs, and decoys. Bush plays checkers, Putin plays chess.
