A factual recounting of the situation. A bit more on the background or implications might have improved the story.

In the past, America has backed some of the shonkiest governments and dictators if they seemed to be willing to follow the American line. This is the first time I can remember where suport has been made contingent on a fair democratic election. Perhaps Pres Obama really does deserve his Nobel prize.
