Kulongoski lobbies to bring China's new hybrid car to Oregon

At BYD Auto Co., China's fast-growing automotive star, a plug-in electric hybrid sedan is just weeks from meeting millions of Chinese consumers. The F3DM, which runs up to 80 miles on a single charge and packs a 7-gallon tank, will probably launch in the United States by 2010.

With all the talk of keeping the big three U.S. automakers in business, this story of an innovative company in China provides an interesting development.

How are we going to pay for them if our jobs are gone? Can this kind of innovation be produced at a reasonable cost in this country?

Excellent. Keeping us abrest of developments.

Just as we had a shift from clunky American gas guzzlers to efficient, long lasting Japanese cars we will now have a shift to Chinese hybrids and pure electrics. 80km already covers three quarters of peoples driving needs. Add a solar roof (10 extra km per day in the sun) and a solar unit at home for charging plus Lithium titanate batteries with a 40 year life time and the car will sweep the world. If we westerners can't out competet the Chinese, we don't deserve the market.
